Investors allege Raleigh partners operated Ponzi scheme
Triangle Business Journal – by Chris Baysden

RALEIGH – Investors who entrusted their money to a Raleigh investment firm now believe they were sucked in by a Ponzi scheme supported by layers of shell companies that created a Byzantine structure, isolating the investors from ownership of valuable assets.

Investors who poured more than $9.35 million into SilverDeere LLC and affiliated companies were defrauded out of millions of dollars, claims a lawsuit in the North Carolina Business Court filed by 14 plaintiffs who were among those that put money in these companies.

The lawsuit alleges that Howard Jacobson and Richard Deckelbaum, partners in SilverDeer, used misrepresentations and deceptive practices to defraud the plaintiffs.

Jim White, the plaintiffs’ attorney, says his clients supplied around $4 million in the various investment vehicles. “There were some returns,” he says. “But the returns stopped a while ago.”
