Jim White

James C White helps people and companies facing serious financial injury.  He has successfully taken on banks, large financial institutions and other corporations in “David v. Goliath” cases.  He has been recognized by his peers as one of the top civil litigation lawyers in the state (in Super Lawyers) as well as one of the top business bankruptcy lawyers in the state (in the Legal Elite).  North Carolina Lawyers Weekly named him a Leader in the Law recognizing him as an influential individual within the state’s legal community.

Jim is a board certified specialist in business bankruptcy law and an experienced litigator.  He has handled cases in state court, federal court and bankruptcy court, as well as appellate cases before the Fourth Circuit, the North Carolina Court of Appeals and North Carolina Supreme Court, and obtained for his clients:


  • A high 6 figure settlement with a national bank for its violation of the automatic stay with its improper attempts to bring a foreclosure action;
  • Multiple confidential 6 figure settlements with banks for foreclosure fraud, violations of the truth in lending act, North Carolina’s debt collection statutes and usury;
  • A six figure settlement with a bank that attempted to sell the wrong house after a foreclosure;
  • A $50,000 settlement with the city of Raleigh on behalf of two men wrongfully arrested outside a club on Glenwood Avenue;
  • A three-million-dollar settlement for a company founder wrongfully terminated by his former business partner;
  • A $1.3-million-dollar settlement of a non-dischargeability action on behalf of a creditor in an Indiana bankruptcy court.


He has appeared on CBS This Morning, WRAL and News 14 Carolinas, and stories about his cases have been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, and CNN and been published in North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, The News & Observer, The Triangle Business Journal, and in newspapers and on news web sites across the country.


Jim recognizes the importance of representing clients pro bono who could not otherwise afford legal representation. He has represented the ACLU of North Carolina, received the Business Leader Media Pro Bono Impact Award and was named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by Legal Aid of North Carolina, Durham County.
